It is a cultural platform dedicated to rediscovering, preserving, and sharing the history of Latin American popular music through vinyl records, archives, stories, and digital content.
2025 Myslivska - Berlín
The project seeks to revalue the analog format as a vehicle for collective memory and to bring the public closer to genres such as cumbia, salsa, boogaloo, chicha, and huayno, highlighting the sound heritage of Latin America and the Caribbean.
My journey with vinyl records started in 2007, when I rescued my parents' record collection and became increasingly interested in music. In 2022, I started Discos Chéveres, encouraged by my friend Fernando Ríos, with the idea of sharing the stories and records that are part of my collection.
In 2019, I conducted a research project at the University of Brasília on Peruvian musical social centers and the arguments for their recognition as intangible cultural heritage of the nation.

Hi! I'm Mariano Mesones, vinyl collector, cultural manager, songwriter, and researcher of Latin American popular music.

In 2023, I started playing vinyl as a selector, presenting Latin music sets with performances in Lima and Berlin.

Discos Chéveres do?
Discos Chéveres explores Latin American popular music and its various expressions, connecting these sounds with new audiences.
This curation also extends to live through selections as a vinyl DJ selector and in recorded sessions.
Using our collection as a starting point, we create content, sharing musical recommendations, stories, and context about specific songs.
At the same time, we continue to expand the collection and discover new records that keep fueling this archive.

The English translation is “Can you play something we can dance to?”Every Selector has heard it. There is always someone who is going to say it to you, no matter how full the dance floor is.
If you are behind the decks, there is always going to be someone who will say it to you.
I created this space where I upload mixes of sessions with songs that I don't always get to play—even if I really want to—just so I don't have to hear someone asking me if I have something more danceable to play.
